Get to Know Chef David Kirkland
David Kirkland is the owner and executive chef of Turn Restaurant and David Kirkland Catering. He holds the belief that food and music can unite people. His culinary path started in the early 1990s, working across the Café at the St. Louis Art Museum (Catering St. Louis), Frazier's Brown Bag, and Venice Café, where he learned as much as possible from the city's best cooks. In 1996 he moved to San Francisco and shifted his focus to music, becoming a resident DJ at several clubs throughout the city. Still, his love of cooking remained — he kept making meals for friends and family while exploring the region's now-famous farm-to-table way of eating. After coming back to St. Louis, Kirkland returned to the kitchen with fresh determination, leading at Café Osage in 2007. He opened Turn Restaurant and David Kirkland Catering in spring 2016.
Turn Restaurant
Turn Restaurant is where Kirkland's DJ roots meet his passion for cooking. He crafts flavor profiles much like he mixes tracks — layering and blending them into something one of a kind. Each menu takes a polished farm-to-table approach that prizes strong relationships with local growers and relies on freshly picked vegetables and flavors. Kirkland works alongside regional farmers, including the restaurant's urban rooftop farm, to shape each season and to support sustainability in the St. Louis dining scene. Turn offers comfort classics, with every plate reimagined.
